Two Reasons Not To Buy That Book

Every time I’m on Amazon, there’s a new book that I am attracted to that will provide me with fortification to live my life more fully.
More happiness, bettebooksr relationships, higher income, better leadership skills, etc. Many of them have merit, and can help people become more aware of new ways of thinking. Yet, I wonder how many of us suspend, delay or procrastinate making big changes in our lives because we need to read one more book?

Research suggests that, “…80 percent of self-help and motivational customers are repeat customers and they keep coming back.” (Steve Salerno, Sham: How the Self-Help Movement Made America Helpless). I have been addicted to self-help books. One of the main reasons I liked buying new books is that I would procrastinate on any goals I was committed to achieving. I know wonderful, beautiful and intelligent people who are addicted to the newest book, seminar or workshop. And still they don’t make the change they want to make.

Self-Help is a $12 billion industry. We are spending huge sums of our hard-earned cash to become better and yet we don’t do it. Why? There are many reasons: we lose momentum, we have no accountability, we are terrified, we don’t believe we are good enough, we think we don’t know how, and others.

I truly want to see people become happier, wealthier, have better relationships and love their jobs. Most helping professionals do. However, I want to inform and educate people that they do not need one more book. What they need is to stop procrastinating and get some momentum.

Here are two HUGE reasons why you don’t need one more book.

  1. You do know how.You are perfectly suited to accomplish your goal. You’ve read the books, you know the steps, and all you need is acknowledgment and accountability.
  2. You know what’s best for you! Spend some time with yourself. Write your own book on what you want, need or desire. Where are you now? Where do you want to be?

Sure, it’s going to take some courage to gain momentum. You are worth it. Instead of buying a book, save your money and buy something awesome when you make progress toward your goal. Just a little bit daily, my friend.
